Wider South East collaborate over proposals to extend Permitted Development Rights

8th May 2019

On 8 March, leaders from the East of England met London Deputy Mayor Jules Pipe and South East England Councils to discuss next steps for political engagement across the Wider South East (WSE).

This was an opportunity to hear progress on the London Plan Examination in Public, and to review the outcomes of the January’s well-attended Summit with the Mayor of London. A brief summary of the Summit discussions is available here.

The WSE Political Steering Group (PSG) committed to working collectively to influence central government on policy that will unlock sustainable growth for the WSE region (tackling housing and infrastructure delivery challenges).

Recent work includes a joint letter to the Housing Minister setting out shared concerns about proposals to extend Permitted Development Rights which can be viewed here

The next piece of work will be to draft joint input to ministers on the potential for land value capture opportunities to contribute funding for essential infrastructure investments. The PSG also heard updates from the three emerging Sub-national Transport Bodies who are leading on developing strategic transport priorities.
