The LGA Productivity Experts Programme

The LGA Productivity Experts Programme provides an opportunity for councils to access expertise that will provide them with the skills they need to realise ambitious efficiency savings and income generation. The programme offers bespoke support, brokered by the LGA, on a specific project or initiative. We are committed to work with 25 councils to deliver savings or generate income of £25 million.

In 2018/19, the LGA’s Productivity Experts programme worked with 42 councils contributing towards efficiency savings and/or income generation of over £42 million over the next four years. To give your innovative project a £7,000 grant boost apply now.

The most recent case studies include those from Torbay, Colchester and Cheshire East, each based on the adult social care market, a waste services review and a children’s services locality model, respectively. The bank of case studies is ever growing so please do take a look and see if any apply to projects which you are currently working on.

Design in the Public Sector Programme

The LGA and Design Council have worked in partnership for five years, with a shared vision to grow the public sector’s capacity to deliver efficient and effective public services, which improve people’s lives.

Our Design in the Public Sector programme supports councils to think about and address their key service challenges in new ways, and is fully funded by the LGA. It has previously supported councils’ challenges around public health, housing, adult social care and children’s services. This year the programme is open to challenges in any council service. I attach a leaflet that provides more details that can be shared with councils in your networks.

Councils that are successfully selected for the scheme embark on an 18 week programme led by design experts, which includes full-day workshops and coaching sessions. Teams are introduced to various design tools and techniques that will enable them to discover and redefine their service challenge ensuring their residents are at the heart of the process. Applications for the programme are now open.
