Planning and Placemaking Expertise

8th November 2018

The second Public Practice cohort, starting in April 2019, is now open to applications. Local authorities and other public organisations across London, the South East and East of England are invited to submit expressions of interest to host placements by Thursday 29 November.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with the Public Practice’s new model for building public planning capacity. The practice selects outstanding built environment expert associates and matches them to Authorities in need of additional planning and placemaking expertise.

The East of England LGA supported the initial development of Public Practice and were delighted that 4 authorities from the region were successful in the matching process for the first cohort.  We understand that conversations are now underway with them and an additional 4 to host future placements and we would strongly encourage others to get involved.

You can download the Prospectus for Authorities here and a shorter two-page briefing here.
The second cohort will cover a broader range of expertise including planning, surveying, development, architecture, urban design, placemaking, community engagement and regeneration.

Therefore Public Practice is open to placing more than one Associate in an authority and encourage Expressions of Interest from different departments, particularly where these can support joined-up working.

The first cohort has delivered at least £65,000 cost savings on recruitment for authorities, and so far every authority hosting a placement has said they are keen to retain their Associate.
