LGA Local Industrial Strategies support offer

5th February 2019

Working closely with the Cities and Local Growth Unit, the LGA has commissioned a comprehensive support offer to councils looking to play an active role supporting Local Enterprise Partnerships and Combined Authorities in the development of Local Industrial Strategies (LIS).

This offer will seek to facilitate the sharing of learning between councils looking to support their LIS as well as providing an overview of some of the key stages of LIS development. Please note that expressions of interest for the action learning sets are sought by 11 February.

Key elements of the LIS support offer will include:
Action learning sets – LIS action learning sets will facilitate the sharing of learning between council officers and provide an opportunity for councils to work together to prepare or further their contribution to the development of their LIS. We will accept one expression of interest per council and officers responsible for economic development and LIS engagement are particularly encouraged to apply.

LIS masterclasses – a series of masterclass sessions will explore the key themes of LIS development, drawing on expert insights and local experiences. The following masterclasses will open for booking shortly to councils, combined authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships:
  • Inclusive growth – Wednesday 13 March (Manchester)
  • Collaboration with business and stakeholders – Monday 25 March (London)
  • Developing a place narrative – Wednesday 3 April (Birmingham)

Online LIS hub – the LGA will be launching a dedicated online hub for councils interested in finding out more about what a LIS is, the key elements of their development and details of how councils can support their LIS.
