The National Joint Council – Covid-19: Social Distancing and PPE

The National Joint Council have provided information for councils regarding social distancing and PPE in a letter to Chief Executives.

The NJC have highlighted that employers have a responsibility to ensure that social distancing rules are adhered to. Where this is not achievable, employees will need to remain at home, or where possible, be redeployed.

Additionally, employers must identify, through risk assessments, that the appropriate PPE needed can be provided, and how they can be stored, cleaned and disposed of safely.

It is understood that there are ongoing difficulties with supply and demand of PPE, and the unions and the LGA continue to lobby government for the urgent provisions required.
