LGA launches new tool for assessing local Economic Value of the Adult Social Care Sector

The adult social care sector in the UK contributes an estimated £46.2 billion to the economy and represents about 6% of total employment. These figures, and many others like them can be found in a new report entitled “The Economic Value of the Adult Social Care Sector”.

Commissioned by the independent charity, Skills for Care, and produced by ICF Consulting Limited, the report shares the economic impact of a growing sector offering services in 45,000 sites across the UK and supporting 2.6 million jobs.

In conjunction with this, the Local Government Association has worked with Skills for Care to develop a spreadsheet tool which is intended to provide councils with a way of gaining insights into the actual and potential economic value of the adult social care sector in their area. The tool can provide key statistics about the sector by County or Unitary council area, including numbers of jobs, economic value and gross value added (GVA).
