27th August 2019

The award for Apprentice of the Year 2019 was presented at the Regional Joint Council meeting on 11th July when Kirsten Moore received her prize of a MacBook.  Kirsten took part in the first ever Local Government Apprentice Challenge in June this year and emerged the winner after a series of challenging activities.

All participants will be sent a report on their performance so that they can discuss potential areas for further development with their managers.

EELGA staff are now working with partners to offer 3 heats in the region in early 2020, the finalists from each will need to take part in a “champion of champions” event to find the East of England Local Government apprentice of the year 2020.  A number of other regions are now offering their own local government apprentice challenge including South East Employers; West Midlands Employers and we are aware that South West Councils is also looking to run one in their region.

The East of England Regional Joint Council is made up of Trade Union and Employer representatives. The Council is responsible for negotiating and consulting at a regional level and is serviced by the Regional Employers Secretary and the Trade Union Secretary. The Local Government Employers Panel is an EELGA Panel which considers employment, skills and workforce issues and makes up the Employers side of the Regional Joint Council.

We will publicise dates for next year as soon as we have them.
