East of England Councils take up the Challenge

8th November 2018

Local Authority Challenge, run by Breckland Training Services in partnership with the East of England LGA, invited teams of up to six people from any area of the public sector to take part in a full day, non-stop, high intensity simulation exercise.

Teams got to manage a failing unitary council on a fictional island for the day. Their challenge was to meet with their politicians, residents, local businesses, key partners and the media to solve their problems, find solutions and to the rescue the council from its financial position. As well as deliver a presentation to a performance board the team also engaged with its customers and built partnerships with those around them.

21 Local Authority teams took on the challenge, with Braintree District Council being crowned overall winners for a second time since the launch of the event in the East of England in 2013.

The winners for the other categories are listed below:
  • Overall Winners: Braintree District Council
