People and Communities Panel - The Hewitt Review and local councils

How can local authorities help the health service in providing for residents

The Improving Outcomes for People and Communities (IOPC) Panel has a focus on matters pertaining to:

  • Health
  • Care
  • Well-being
  • Housing
  • Engagement with the voluntary and communities sector.

Its role is to provide oversight of EELGA’s work within these fields, and to set strategic direction and priorities for policy work.

This meeting in particular will look to examine the health governance environment, and local government’s role within it, after the publication of the Hewitt Review. In particular, the Hewitt Review has raised that an increased focus on Prevention would be beneficial. Therefore, how can local authorities, with their extensive knowledge of place and experience in administering preventative programmes, help the health service in providing for residents?

The Panel meets quarterly, and is currently chaired by Mayor Dave Hodgson of Bedford.

An agenda will be forthcoming closer to the meeting.
