Neurodiversity in the Workplace

An estimated 15-20% of the population are thought to exhibit some form of Neurodivergence, and yet the rate of disclosure in the workplace is low as many employees fear discrimination. Unfortunately, there are still many barriers to accessing and maintaining successful employment. The Office for National Statistics reported that 64% of employers understanding little or nothing about Neurodivergent conditions.

There are several advantages to creating an inclusive workforce and increasing accessibility for Neurodivergent employees. Diverse teams tend to benefit from increased productivity, lower turnover, higher rates of employee satisfaction, and are better equipped to serve the wide-ranging needs of the public.

This training will help staff understanding the common barriers to accessing and maintaining successful employment and explore practical strategies, solutions, and reasonable adjustments to support Neurodivergent individuals during recruitment and in the workplace.

Training Objectives:

• Become familiar with the language of Neurodiversity and Neurodevelopmental conditions.

• An overview of the characteristics of many Neurodevelopmental conditions, intersecting factors, and differences in presentation.

• Understanding the common barriers to accessing and maintaining successful employment.

• Recognise the benefits of improving sustained employment outcomes for Neurodivergent individuals and the wider community.

• An overview of unconscious bias, mindset and other challenges that can influence the treatment of Neurodivergent individuals.

• Exploring practical strategies, solutions, and reasonable adjustments to support Neurodivergent individuals during recruitment and in the workplace.

Trainer: Emma Lord is the Founder and Lead Consultant at Rethink Inclusion. The aim of Rethink Inclusion is to upskill and equip employers, organisations and professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to support and accommodate Neurodivergent employees and jobseekers. Emma has lived experience as she was diagnosed with ADHD in her late twenties. Receiving this diagnosis was life-changing as it helped her to understand how her brain worked and it enabled her to finally play to her strengths. Emma is in a fortunate position, as she has been able to access the right tools and support and has gained extensive knowledge of ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions. She is passionate about breaking down barriers and supporting others to improve accessibility and inclusion for people with ADHD.

How the training will be delivered: The training will be delivered through MS teams and will not be recorded. It will be delivered through a power point presentation, visual materials and facilitate case studies discussions. Each trainee will receive a copy of the training presentation and relevant hand-outs for future reference.

Audience: This training is available for all organisations.

Cost: The cost to attend this training is £85 plus VAT.
