Collaboration has never been more important in tackling the complicated and challenging problems faced by local government today, particularly in the wake of the unprecedented pandemic we have experienced over the past two years and the Government’s ‘Levelling-up’ agenda.
For this reason, London Councils, the Greater London Authority, the East of England Local Government Association and South East Councils worked together to arrange a member-led event on the collaboration taking place within this economically important area.
The London and Wider South East Conference will bring together political leaders from local authorities across the East of England, the South East and London. It will hear from political leaders from across the area, from practitioners working on some key challenges and from the Government on their ambitions for the Levelling-up agenda. The objectives will be to share best practice, agree actions that can be jointly taken forward and build a foundation for future collaboration in the years to come.
This conference will showcase the great work that is being done across London and the Wider South East to tackle shared challenges including climate change, infrastructure provision and working across boundaries. It aims to establish strong relations between each of these regions for the benefit of everyone. Time will be set aside to discuss how best to draw lessons from the presented case studies and determine tangible opportunities for collaboration going forward. We expect participants to leave the conference with deliverable actions for our collaborative efforts.
In addition, colleagues from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities will be in attendance to provide a brief update on the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill. There will be the opportunity to discuss the potential implications of the Bill for our collaborative work, and on how this can be viewed in the current economic conditions we find ourselves in, including a cost of living crisis.
There will be opportunities for discussion and network throughout the day.
