Gypsies & Travellers have the worst health outcomes of any ethnic minority in the UK. This includes 1 in 5 women suffering the loss of a child. The causes of this disparity are multi faceted and these poorer outcomes are reflected across measures of education, criminal justice and deprivation.

This session will enable participants to gain an understanding of the lived health experience of Gypsies & Travellers. It will discuss the barriers faced by Gypsies & Travellers in accessing appropriate care and challenge participants to look systemically at means of removing these barriers. It will also challenge stereotypes and enable participants to have a greater understanding of Gypsy Traveller culture. This will all be linked to midwifery, neonatal and perinatal care.

Audience: Neonatal, Maternity, MVP and Perinatal Mental Health staff in the East of England Region.
