The East of England LGA and the Eastern Academic Health Science Network are holding an East of England Parliamentary Reception, hosted by the MP for West Suffolk, Matt Hancock, to support leaders across the East to make a strong case for the resources, powers and freedoms to support continued economic prosperity in the East.

The East of England has long been a strong pillar of the national economy and as an essential net contributor to Treasury it is critical to future of the UK plc that it maintains and grows its productivity, profitability and employment.

It is clear that there is a need to champion sustainable economic growth in the East.

Strategic partners in the East of England are already working hard to harness their collective strength to: address barriers to housing; realise infrastructure and transport growth; and, build on our strength in innovation in science, technology & industry.

Our infrastructure requires further improvement locally and nationally so we can continue to grow.  We can assist government to deliver our infrastructure needs, assisting better infrastructure planning and supporting future housing and economic growth.

The East of England is the source of many discoveries and innovations that have shaped the modern world.  We are a region particularly known for world-leading research and innovation in healthcare and life sciences.  Here we can work with government, to nurture the UKs global position in this sector, as well as speed up the development and adoption of innovations.

This important event offers us the valuable opportunity to come together to tackle the challenges and deliver on our ambitions.

The reception will take place on Wednesday 28 February 2018 from 16:00 – 18:00 in the Terrace Pavilion of the House of Commons.
