The East of England LGA is running a series of free roundtable discussions in 2023 and 2024. These sessions are open to all councils in the East of England and their partner organisations. At the EELGA Roundtable Discussions you will hear from a guest speaker on each theme and have an opportunity to learn from, and share your own examples of best practice, opportunities and challenges.
Following the establishment of Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) as statutory bodies in July 2022 and the much anticipated Hewitt Review of ICSs published on 4 April 2023, EELGA will be hosting an upcoming Roundtable on: The Hewitt Review of Integrated Care Systems: From focussing on illness to promoting health and the role of local councils.
The review provides a series of recommendations to government to progress ICSs to the next stage focussed around four critical themes, one of which is ‘From focussing on illness to promoting health’. Focusing on the importance of preventative care, a key recommendation is that the share of total NHS budgets at ICS level going towards prevention should be increased by at least 1 per cent over the next five years, and the public health grant should also be increased. This roundtable will bring together council leaders, chief executives, council officers, along with NHS colleagues working within integrated care systems to discuss how local councils in the East of England can best support ICSs to make the shift that is needed away from focussing on illness to promoting health. Attendees will share examples on financial return on investment in prevention from the East of England, and explore how the role and experience of local government in the prevention agenda can be better understood and delivered within the 6 ICSs in the region.
