The East of England LGA is running a series of free roundtable discussions in 2023 and 2024. These sessions are open to all councils in the East of England and their partner organisations. At the EELGA roundtable, you will hear from a guest speaker on each theme and have an opportunity to learn from, and share your own examples of, best practice, opportunities, and challenges.
Internet connectivity is of particular importance to the East of England. This region’s more rural demographic means that strong connectivity can be a powerful driver for growth, a useful tool in managing traffic, and can narrow the economic differences between rural and urban areas. However, according to Think Broadband, the East of England has the second lowest gigabit connection coverage in England, and if the current trend in rollout persists, the government will miss its target to establish an 85% gigabit-speed coverage by 2025 in this area.
Therefore, at this roundtable, we would like to take the opportunity to share how progress is unfolding in your areas and highlight what the main barriers to stronger connectivity are. In addition, we want to highlight the economic opportunities that are present when strong connectivity can be relied upon, and how this can be potentially transformative to our economy.
Agenda to follow shortly.
Who should attend: Councillors, leaders, chief executives, officers at all levels and other partner organisations in the East of England region.
Please note: if this session is oversubscribed places will be limited to 2 – 3 people per authority.
