The Eastern Region Principal Social Worker Network are hosting an Adult Social Care practice event. The focus is on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, with an emphasis on anti-racist practice and working with LGBTQ+ older people. The event will be led by regional PSW network co-chairs Fran Marshall of Cambridgeshire County Council and Amanda Takavarasha of Suffolk County Council.
Aims and Objectives
Participants will:
- Learn how to engage skilfully and sensitively with sexual orientation and gender identity when working with older people with care and support needs.
- Gain critical knowledge and skills to confidently practice in an anti-racist way.
Format of the day
There will be a workshop on each subject matter, delivered by experienced academics in Social Work:
- for working with older LGBTQ+ adults will be Dr Jason Schaub who is a University Associate Professor in Social Work.
- Mthoko Ngobese is a Senior University Lecturer and Lead Social Worker and will be our workshop facilitator for anti-racist practice.
In addition to the workshops and keynote speech, the event will include best practice showcases, roundtable discussions, and time for networking over refreshments and lunch.

Who should attend?
The event is open to operational Adult Social Care workers including Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and social care managers within the East of England region. This event is by invitation only from your Local Authority Principal Social Worker.
