Water issues loom large in our work – whether it is in planning or economic development terms around housing and business growth, around sufficiency, or in environmental terms around the impact of river pollution or over abstraction, or in flooding terms. The water industry works in a massively complex regulatory ecosystem around these various water issues, adding a layer of complexity to what are already massive long-term challenges from our perspective as local authorities. Many of our councils have great examples of initiatives around these various aspects of our duties as they relate to water, but equally, many of us find it hard to navigate and join up.
This summit will be a learning opportunity, as well as an opportunity to share best practice, and explore how as a sector we can get on top of all this complexity. The East of England Local Authority Water Summit is targeted at both elected members and officers, and across disciplines and policy portfolios from planning to the environment, from highways to economic development, as well as those in council leadership and chief executive roles.
