Tackling homelessness and a shortage of homes across the East of England requires a range of solutions and integrated strategies, and above all, some new thinking. The current UK housing crisis presents local authorities with a complex set of challenges; local authorities need to be able to house homeless people suitably and efficiently, but also to plan for housing that meets the needs of all constituents. To combat the housing crisis, councils, housing and the homeless sectors are working together to provide the housing and support that our communities need.

Innovative housing models are required to meet the wide range of local housing and regeneration needs across the region, and across the whole country.

In Partnership with Rentplus the East of England LGA is holding a ‘Building Solutions; from Homeless to Homeowner’ event on 4 April 2019 to look at innovative solutions to reduce homelessness and meet local housing needs.

This event will provide local authorities in the East with an opportunity to share best practice for tackling homelessness alongside the chance to discuss how we go about increasing the supply of homes. It will focus on strategies from the East as well as exciting new approaches from the rest of the country and consider the opportunities for collaboration, locally, regionally and nationally.
Chief Executives and Senior Officers with a responsibility for Housing and Homelessness, and Portfolio Holders for Housing.

The event is in partnership with Rentplus, the country’s leading provider of affordable rent to buy housing, giving real opportunities for working people on lower to middle incomes aspiring to move from renting to owning their home. We are an innovative solution to the UK’s housing need. By working in close partnership with national government, local authorities, housing associations, local enterprise partnerships, developers and house builders, and private investors, we already have families in affordable rent to buy homes across the south of England and are planning thousands of new homes across the country.

We were joined on the day by our Poet in Residence Seamus Fox, author of 'No Homeless Problem and Other Poems'. He is a resident at Emmaus Cambridge, a charity offering formerly homeless and socially excluded people a stable home and meaningful work. Please follow this link to find out more about the charity:
