East of England LGA Appoints New Managing Director

A message from Councillor David Finch, Chairman of the East of England LGA

I am delighted to announce that following a rigorous recruitment and selection exercise EELGA has appointed our new Managing Director. Professor Cheryl Davenport will take up post on 11 May 2020.

With Professor Cheryl Davenport as the new MD, a new and exciting chapter in the future of the East of England LGA is assured.

Cheryl impressed the appointments panel and stakeholders with her focus on partnership working, strategic approach and commitment to public service.

Cheryl is currently Director of Health and Care Integration at Leicestershire County Council where she leads the development and delivery of Leicestershire’s Better Care Fund, a pooled budget of £60m, transforming services across health, care and housing, working in partnership with leadership teams across the county council, districts councils, the NHS and with a wide range of other partners and stakeholders.

A Director with 29 years’ experience, spanning strategy, policy, commissioning, and business development, Cheryl is expert in directing complex change programmes across organisational boundaries and building highly effective partnerships. Her career to date has involved leading acute, community and mental health services in the NHS, joint commissioning with local authorities, consultancy, and international experience, as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Branch of the American Psychiatric Association, a large membership organisation led by a board of clinicians.

In 2018 she was appointed Honorary Professor at De Montfort University’s School of Health and Life Sciences.

Cheryl says that she is “thrilled to be appointed to the role of EELGA Managing Director. I am looking forward to taking up the post in May and all of the new challenges that lie ahead”.
