Get to know James Wickham - Talent Bank Associate

The role of digital transformation is becoming increasingly important. Here, Digital Transformation Consultant, James Wickham, explains how he can support your council with digital transformation.

Tell us about yourself and your specialism:

My name is James Wickham, and I am a Digital Transformation Consultant.  I have proven success driving digital enablement and business transformation initiatives as strategist, advisor and innovator.

I have sixteen years’ experience working within Local Government, and three years as a consultant, primarily serving the public sector.  My skills include Consultancy, Systems Thinking, Programme Management and Project Management, within the Digital Transformation domain.

I work in all sectors / industries, but my “bread and butter” is the public sector, specifically local government.

Tell us about any significant challenges relating to your specialism and how you can overcome them:

I think the most significant challenges within digital transformation is the set-thought that “it is all about technology and a new application will solve everything”.  This is not the case.  Technology is an enabler, that’s all, to help provide solutions.  You need to look at the whole environment too, not just that specific process / problem.  Solving one issue in isolation is usually not the fix that is required.

Digital transformation, if undertaken properly, can enable positive change by ensuring services meet the requirements so as to serve the modern needs of today’s society.  It ensures outcome-based solutions, ensuring needed capabilities are identified.

Tell us where you have come from and what has led you to be part of EELGA’s Talent Bank:

One of the EELGA team was familiar with my work and recommended me to the Talent Bank. I am delighted to have joined the network of existing associates and look forward to supporting the councils of the East of England.
