NEW – Elected Member contract management training added to EELGA offer!

In addition to the popular member training offer advertised for 2023, we have now added contract management training.

High-value, complex and strategic contracts invariably need oversight from elected Members at some stage in the commissioning process. This can be during the planning and development stage through to sanctioning contract award. Sometimes, it may even involve approving actions for dealing with an underperforming contractor or cost overrun. This can prove challenging given that no two situations are rarely the same, and the scale and complexity can prove daunting for officers and Members alike.

The East of England LGA (EELGA) are well aware of this situation and can readily be of help. We have collaborated with contract management and procurement expert Ken Cole (EELGA Talent Bank member, and Fellow of World Commerce & Contracting), to offer ‘Effective Contract Management Training’ . This briefing style session lasts about 2 hours, including Q&As and can be held on-site or virtual, usually during the early evening to fit in with busy agendas.

The session is very much informal and is designed to help elected Members and officers to work together to enhance the value accrued and to improve outcomes achieved from their contracts. No previous experience or knowledge is required to attend. Each session can accommodate up to 40 people in-person (reduced if being delivered virtually).

The hosting authority is responsible for providing suitable accommodation, refreshments and administering bookings.

In addition, the EELGA Member Development Programme includes training across various other areas, such as social media, decision making and more.
