  • The Impact of Exiting the EU

Before working in local government, Matthew worked in the legal sector as a will writer and a paralegal; but felt that local government gave him a better opportunity to give back to the community.  Since then, he has worked at Suffolk County Council and now works at EELGA, where he has assisted with regional coordination surrounding Brexit and COVID-19.  Currently, he leads on EELGA’s work surrounding the economy and infrastructure, and has a particular focus on what can be done to address the housing challenge facing the region.

In particular, he has written a report on the barriers facing housebuilding in the East of England, conducted research on the effectiveness of home-working across the local government sector, and currently manages the EELGA Roundtable programme throughout the year.  He also writes regular briefings, circulated to Chief Executives across the region, outlining the impact that important policy developments will have on the East of England.
