Town Planning Schools Pack Launched

6th December 2017

As part of the regional project to address the shortage of town planners we are delighted to be launching a schools pack comprising of an activity and fact sheet that can be used in local schools to encourage and develop the next generation of planners.

The pack was developed in Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils with feedback from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Regional Working Group.  A word version of the pack was sent to every council in the East of England so that each one can replace it with their own logo to use with their schools locally.  It is also possible to amend the fact sheet to incorporate local issues.

Please do inform the RTPI if you use the pack or disseminate the information.  Contact careers@rtpi.org.uk or phone 020 7929 9452.

The pack is one of many resources available to those authorities wishing to engage with schools particularly to implement the Memorandum of Co-operation in career development and training in planning.  One authority has suggested that rather than using it in one school at a time, which takes a lot of commitment and isn't always well received, why not run it centrally and invite interested students to apply to come on?  We also recommend the RTPI Ambassadors Programme which features a number of useful suggestions and documents see www.rtpi.org.uk/ambassadorstoolkit
