The Secret Life of Teams

7th December 2016

As part of our on-going commitment to the development of our coaches in the region we recently hosted a joint CPD session in collaboration with Suffolk Coaching and Mentoring partnership on Team Coaching.

The session was facilitated by Gill Graves from Iridium HRD Consulting Ltd and was highly participative, interactive and enjoyed by all those who took part.  Team coaching is an evolving area of coaching practice but the principles are broadly similar to individual coaching.  However, team coaching can create an environment where the team feel enabled to communicate with and understand each other, and an ability to talk about what works for them and what is acting as a barrier. Unlocking the team ‘secrets’.

Gill Graves the session facilitator commented “the topic generated a high level of energy and interest and it was fantastic working with so many experienced coaches as they both challenged and reflected upon their own coaching practice”.  Delegates were equally enthused, commenting that the session offered “A good mixture of theory, practical tips and self-reflection” and was an “empowering and replicative opportunity to really understand team coaching”.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day with the coaches from across both organisations enjoying the opportunity to share experiences, reflect on what successful team coaching looks like and network with new and existing colleagues.   It was felt that the balance of information and activities helped to consolidate the learning and delegates really enjoyed the interactive aspect which Gill brought to the event as a whole.

Andy Walker, Training Manager from Suffolk County Council and lead for the Suffolk Coaching and Mentoring pool stated “It was great to finally meet the some of the coaches from the EELGA pool and I know that coaches from both pools enjoyed networking and finding out about each other. The event had a real buzz and the feedback shows that we all got a lot out of it. After the success of this event we are hoping to link up with East of England LGA for future CPD events – watch this space!”

We too look forward to further collaborative working with the Suffolk Coaching and Mentoring pool to help develop and strengthen the level of coaching across the region and bring the breadth of expertise and learning and insight in to one room.  For more information or any Regional Pool queries please contact emma.moore@eelga.gov.uk
