Talent Bank takes the headache out of local authority recruitment

6th April 2018

A specialist talent search for senior council staff has become a superior recruitment solution for local authorities.

The East of England LGA created a tailored package to headhunt and fill executive posts using its vast experience of the sector and knowledge of available or interested skilled staff.

Since the programme launched the East of England LGA have helped councils appoint Chief Executives, Managing Directors, Heads of Paid Service, Strategic and Executive Directors, Assistant Directors and Heads of Service.

It works by designing or reviewing job descriptions to ensure it reflects the needs of the authority and presents as an attractive proposition for candidates before using a range of platforms to locate a selection of potential employees.

A recommended shortlist is then prepared and candidates are sent to an assessment centre where a range of evaluation services are offered including psychometric assessments, interviews and a media exercise.

These can be used to test ability and suitability of candidates in areas such as numerical and verbal reasoning, aptitude, leadership and judgement.

Shaun Scrutton, Managing Director of Rochford District Council said the recruitment service had saved him money, time and effort.

“We’ve all been there- that sinking feeling when a key member of the team tells you at an unguarded moment of their intention to leave for pastures new,” he said.

“It’s not just the feeling of a successful team being pulled apart, it’s the challenge of navigating a way through a tortuous recruitment process.

“Thankfully, Michelle and her team at the EELGA provide a service that takes away the pain of finding suitable candidates for your senior positions.

“With her calm and considered expertise, the recruitment process becomes more straightforward, manageable, cost effective, and with a more likely successful outcome.”
