Seeking Senior Managers to participate in Local Authority Challenge 2017

1st August 2017

Once again, the East of England LGA is working in partnership with Breckland Training Services to deliver this year’s “Local Authority Challenge 2017”, which will take place on November 2nd at Burgess Hall in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

The Local Authority Challenge offers a rare opportunity for aspiring managers across local government to gain exposure to issues outside of their normal working lives and give them a taste of what senior management is like.

The challenge is open to teams of six people from any area of local authority work. Delegates will spend the day as the management team of a fictional local authority, encountering many of the tasks that a real corporate team would deal with.

If you are interested in registering a team, then please contact Breckland Training Services directly: http://breckland-training.co.uk/contact%20us.html

To deliver the challenge successfully, we also need 10 senior managers from across the East of England to participate in the event as individuals. This is an excellent learning, networking and personal development opportunity for those taking part and you don’t even have to pay anything to participate!

As part of the day, you will participate in a range of activities including mock press interviews, sitting on overview and scrutiny committees, reviewing business plans and being portfolio holders. All of these activities will stretch and challenge you as much as the team members taking part in the challenge itself. You will be kept fed and watered throughout the day and you can participate in the awards ceremony which is the conclusion to the day’s events.

Individual participants will need to be relatively experienced and / or senior local government officers and ideally in some form of management or leadership role – Directors, Heads of Service, Service Managers, Team Leaders – and can be from any profession, service area or background. Team participants from previous Local Authority Challenges are particularly welcome to apply.

If you are interested in applying for this exciting opportunity or you would like to find out more information, then please contact our Senior Manager, Eddie Gibson, in the first instance – eddie.gibson@eelga.gov.uk or 01284 758310 / 07500 769740.
