Sustainability East Leadership Programme

100 guests including Members and Chief Executives from local authorities across the East of England were treated to a thought provoking evening at a gala dinner at Westminster College Cambridge on 3rd October.

The event included talks on global pressures and the impacts of climate change on health from Professor Hugh Montgomery and David Pencheon, Director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit. The dinner, which was chaired by Will Day, marked the beginning of the Sustainability East Leadership Programme.

30 Local authority senior managers from across theEast of England are taking part in the Leadership Programme which has been developed by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), Sustainability East and Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership (CPSL) as part of the Climate Change Skills Fund* in the East of England.

Through a combination of high-profile speakers, practical sessions and working groups, the programme is intended to inspiresenior local government professionals to embed sustainability into the management and service delivery of the organisation, and provide practical tools and skills to support this.

* Climate Change Skills Fund (CCSF) is a DCLG (Department for Communities and Local Government) resource designed to further develop understanding of how global sustainability challenges will impact on local authorities. In the East of England the CCSF has been developed and managed by Sustainability East on behalf of Improvement East.
