Working with Trade Unions

The East of England Regional Council is made up of the local authority representatives on the Local Government Employers Panel and representatives of Unison, GMB and Unite.

The Council is responsible for negotiating and consulting at a regional level and is serviced by the Regional Employers Secretary and the Trade Union Secretary. The Council or the joint secretaries may delegate responsibilities to other regional officers.

Most conditions of service are now either negotiated nationally or are determined at a local level. The Regional Agreements for Standby and Excess Travelling Time are no longer updated - the Joint Secretaries agreed that the final updated version would be published in 2015. Historically the rates were increased by the same percentage as agreed by the National Joint Council for increasing Spinal Column Point 5 (SCP5). Due to the Living Wage requirements, SCP5 was deleted from the NJC pay spine with effect from 1 October 2015.

Joint Secretarial help can be offered to authorities to assist them in coming to local agreements or arrangements.
