Be a Councillor
Be a Councillor is a new and exciting campaign being organised by the East of England LGA to encourage more people to stand for election as a councillor.
It was launched to the public in early October 2010 and includes a series of high profile events and accompanying media relations and online activity to raise public awareness.
At the centre of the campaign is half a dozen ambassador councillors who 'break the mould' of the stereotypical councillor. They lead the communications activity, articulating what they stand for and encouraging members of the public to do the same.
The campaign will appeal to all members of the community, particularly those under-represented as councillors.
Getting Involved
The East of England LGA is encouraging all councils in the region to participate in the Be a Councillor campaign. There is a range of generic resources available to councils including postcards, posters, banners and website content.
The primary aim of the communications is to encourage interested people to register their interest online or by telephone. Once registered, they will be provided with more information about standing for election and invited to attend an informal and fun event.
The campaign has received full cross-party support and is being funded by Improvement East and delivered by the East of England LGA.
An additional objective of the campaign is to promote a positive image of the role of councillors across the East of England.
